About The Moms
The Thinking Moms is a collaboration among friends and women who, by their own admission, “think too much” and were looking for an outlet for their active imaginations and curiosities about life and motherhood.
Started in the summer of 2009 during the pregnancies of Lee and Elisa, the main purpose of the blog is to provide a guilt-free refuge in the land of overwhelming demands on women and especially mothers.
Elisa is mom to a six year old daughter who considers sleeping a sign of weakness. Elisa describes her daughter as being a bizarre combination of recessive genes as she is the exact opposite of Elisa and her husband. Elisa has been married for 9 years and their second child, a boy, is due in August.
Elisa loves to write, visit the beach and has a dangerous weakness for chocolate rugula. She hates clutter, despises cooking (she and Lee both agree the kitchen is a very dangerous place) and has a phobia of any insect that has more than 4 legs. She readily admits that she also loves to analyze social situations. Seinfeld is still her favorite television show. Her greatest joy is spending time with her family. She calls her daughter (and future son) her “Little Treasures”.
Lee is expecting her first child after years of trying and is looking forward to the experience of being a mom in her late 30’s. Although the pregnancy has overshadowed just about everything else, Lee maintains her own marketing business and gluten-free lifestyle in upstate New York with her husband of 7 years and 19 year old step-daughter. With a background in Sociology and Life Coaching, those skills and tools came in handy when Lee was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2003. Learning how to transition from hot dogs and happy meals has brought a new enthusiasm for seeking out more diverse and healthy foods (not cooking them) and helping others who are unable to eat gluten as well.
Lee’s current passions are learning about pregnancy, childbirth, motherhood, infant care and trying to make sense of all of the baby products and gear while trying not to completely lose her mind. Although the continuous expansion of her back-side and size 10 feet are causing her moments of self-consciousness, the pure joy of creating another human being gets her through most days with a smile. When not at her computer, Lee can be found at the library checking out every baby book ever written or obsessively organizing her life and home before the new arrival.
